The Department of National Community Water Supply was established on 22nd September 2014 with the objective of uplifting the livelihoods of the rural people and eradicating their poverty by supplying safe drinking water and basic sanitary facilities ensuring the user satisfaction. By now, more than nearly 4 million rural people are reaping the benefits through the fulfilment of the water needs of the rural community. The Community Water Supply makes a contribution of 12% to the water supply in Sri Lanka and it is expected to augment it to 20% by the Year 2020, Arrangements are underway to increase the Rural Water Supply under five Regional Offices in the Island.
