Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has instructed the ministry officials to take necessary steps to immediately recruit 1,000 vacancies for the nursing service.

In a statement, the ministry stated that there are about 3,000 nursing vacancies in the country’s health sector.

Also, the Minister of Health has given instructions to the officials to implement as a policy the program of keeping stock of medicines in the country for a period of one year instead of three to four months.

Also, the minister has given instructions to release essential medicines to the health system without shortage.

It has been informed to take all possible measures to overcome the shortage of other medicines including essential medicines in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has decided to enroll 3,500 people in the nursing training course for this year.

In the years 2019 and 2020, applications are going to be invited from the students who have passed A-Level in Biology stream or Physics stream through the online system from tomorrow to the 18th of next month.
