The Council of Ministers has given approval to start GCE Advanced Level classes immediately after the completion of the GCE OL 2023 (2024) Examination.
Accordingly, GCE Advanced Level activities are to be started in schools with the completion of GCE OL 2023 so that teachers can be provided with enough time to cover the GCE Advanced Level.
The Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha said the other day that according to the program to recover the missed studies and school examination schedule due to the closure of schools during the last covid disaster, the students appearing for the GCE OL examination this year will have to start the GCE Advanced Level classes immediately after the examination. It was declared.
The minister said that the aim of taking such measures is to prevent unnecessary delays such as delays in university entrance for school children and to restore the studies that were missed during the last covid period within a period of two years from this year.
The cabinet decision is below.
“After the completion of the GCE OL examination, the examination department takes at least three months to release the GCE OL 2023 (2024) results. During this period, the tendency of students to study GCE Advanced Level outside of school education has decreased and this has led to the creation of various social problems. Taking those facts into account, it has been recognized that it is appropriate to start the GCE Advanced Level activities with the end of the GCE OL examination in the year 2024 so as to be able to manage the students’ time effectively and to give the teachers enough time to cover the GCE Advanced Level syllabus. Accordingly, the Minister of Education approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Education to start GCE Advanced Level classes immediately after the completion of the examination for the students appearing for the GCE OL in May 2024 in relation to the year 2023.
