The late Mr. Kumara Welgama was a Minister of the Samagi Jana Balawega, Kalutara District, and a former member of parliament.
At a private hospital in Colombo, he was receiving treatment when he passed away at the age of 74.
As the leader of the New Lanka Freedom Party, he entered the election in 2020 alongside Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
From 1984 till 2000, Mr. Welgama led the Agalawatta Constituency Sri Lanka Freedom Party as its chief organizer.
In the governments governed by the SLFP, he served as Minister of Transport from 2010 to early 2015 in addition to serving as Minister of Industrial Development from 2007 to 2010.
