The Sri Lanka People’s Commission today decided to reduce electricity tariffs with effect from 18 January 2025.
The Commission announced its decision today after studying the proposal submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board for the second revision of electricity tariffs this year and after taking into consideration the suggestions and opinions presented during the public consultation held in this regard.
Accordingly, domestic, religious places, hotels. Electricity tariffs of all consumer categories like industries, public utilities and government institutions will be reduced from tomorrow.
Although the Ceylon Electricity Board’s resolution had limited the overall reduction in electricity rates to 10 percent, the commission increased the overall rate reduction to 20 percent. Accordingly, the fees for the domestic sector have been reduced as mentioned below.
The second electricity tariff revision for this year is scheduled to be announced today (17 Jan).
- The reduced electricity rates will be effective from tomorrow
- A reduction of 24 percent (Average) to the domestic sector
- Electricity charges will be reduced by 21 percent for religious places
- 30 percent for industrial sectors
- 31 percent for hotels sectors
- Power bills of public utilities and government institutions also down
- Total reduction is 20 percent
